Severe storms slam St. Louis area, heading toward Metro East ST. LOUIS - A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect through at least 5 p.m. Saturday for parts of the St. Louis metro. The most intense parts of the storm are heading toward the east of St. Louis after strong winds and heavy rainfall in the Missouri side of the region. If you are in the path of a severe thunderstorm warning, seek shelter immediately. While thunderstorms and some rain chances are the main threats, there is also the potential for damaging winds up to 70 mph. There is also strong potential for downed trees and power lines. Drivers may notice some brief, localized flood risks as well. As severe storms roll through the area, much of area remains under a severe thunderstorm watch. Widespread outages: 100K-plus without power in St. Louis area after storms ST. LOUIS - Strong storms in the St. Louis area have led to widespread power outages. Ameren crews are working to restore power to tens of thousands of customers without power. Just before 5 p.m. Saturday, there are around 90,000 Ameren customers without service in Missouri and 15,000 in the state of Illinois. Severe storms from the west of the St. Louis region packed lightning, rain and winds up to 70 miles per hour. Man arrested for stalking, kidnapping ex-lover in Riverside County  A man who allegedly stalked and kidnapped his ex-lover was arrested in Riverside County on Saturday. According to a release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, deputies with the Moreno Valley Sheriff's Station received calls from the family of a victim stating that a female resident was taken against her will in the 13000 block of Elsworth Avenue in Moreno Valley. When deputies responded, they located the kidnapped female’s vehicle with her and the suspect, Johnny Melvin Monroe, inside. During the incident, Monroe went to the victim’s residence and forced her into her vehicle before driving away against her will, authorities said.  Riot breaks out at juvenile detention hall in Downey “The victim stated she previously was involved in a relation with Monroe but had made it clear she was no longer interested in him,” RCSD said in a statement. “The suspect had been previously arrested at the victim’s residence on multiple incidents but continued to seek out the victi...

13 boaters rescued from Potomac River during severe thunderstorm After getting caught in a severe thunderstorm Friday evening, 13 boaters were rescued from the Potomac River in Montgomery County, Maryland.Swiftwater rescue boat crews responded to a part of the river located by Sycamore Landing Road and Riley’s Lock around 6:30 p.m., after the boaters managed to make it to the shore and called 911, fire officials said.The area was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at that time.According to Montgomery County Fire and EMS spokesman Pete Piringer, the boaters were in a “fairly remote area,” but were able to protect themselves from the heavy rain, thunder and lightning by holding their boat over their heads.It took some time for rescue crews to get to the boaters, but they were able to locate them at the edge of the river. Piringer said the boaters were in a difficult area to get them out by land. As a result, some swiftwater rescue boats were dispatched from Montgomery County and were able to get to the boaters and helped them to safety...

13 people displaced, 2 dogs killed after ‘extensive fire’ sparks in Miami Gardens home More of a dozen people find themselves without a place to call home after a fire broke out in a Miami Gardens neighborhood, claiming the lives of two pets.Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the burning home along Northeast 215th Street near First Avenue, early Saturday afternoon.Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units that happened to be in the are also rushed out to help put out the flames.“Crews arrived in minutes, found that there was heavy smoke and fire throughout the house,” said MDFR Battalion Chief Christopher True.Cellphone video captured that heavy smoke, which could be seen up and down Northeast 215th Street.“It was an extensive fire, extended up into the attic space, which made it a little more difficult to get to,” said True.The fire ignited at around 11:45 a.m. Firefighters were able to put out the flames.All 13 of the people living in the home were able to escape safely, but sadly, two dogs did not make it.The family is now waiting on help fro...
