Opinion: Denver Imam and rabbi make plea for peace, bridge building

As faith leaders, colleagues, and friends who come from different traditions, we share diverse perspectives on the State of Israel and the plight of the Palestinian people. We are alarmed by the continuing violence and the ongoing war Israel is waging on Hamas due to their despicable attacks on innocent people on Oct. 7.We are deeply concerned about the conflict’s continued impact on Gaza, the West Bank and further escalation throughout the region. People we care about are in harm’s way. Loved ones have been killed. We grieve the unprecedented loss of life. We pray for a swift resolution to the conflict, the release of all hostages and the creation of a process wherein Palestinians and Israelis can live side by side in harmony. We are also very concerned about how the war in Israel and Palestine has impacted members of our own Muslim and Jewish communities here in Colorado — and, indeed, throughout the world. The documented rise in anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim rhetoric a...Douglas Bruce: Don’t undermine TABOR revenue limits with Prop. HH

After 30 years of success, legislative leftists still hate the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) Amendment. Voters have rejected past schemes to surrender our right to vote on runaway government growth, but politicians won’t leave us alone. In 2022, they reluctantly sent us a TABOR refund of excess state revenue ($750 per person, $1,500 for joint filers), but their resolve is still “Never again!”On the last day of this year’s session, a one-party cabal put on the ballot their 48-page scam for a new cap that will exponentially increase state spending. Dozens of conservative legislators walked out. Legislative hearings? Last minute. Public input? Limited. Respect for the Constitution? None. Respect for the rule of law? None.A constitutional mandate like TABOR cannot legally be changed by a regular bill like Senate Bill 303 to put Proposition HH on the ballot. No election to change TABOR can be held in an off-year like 2023. You know that. Politicians count on their politically-appointe...Broncos stock report: RG Quinn Meinerz looks like a dominant interior offensive lineman

Stock UpRG Quinn MeinerzYou’d be hard-pressed to find somebody on either sideline who played better Sunday than Broncos right guard Quinn Meinerz. He was dominant in the run game and more than held his own in pass protection, save for one Chris Jones rush that Meinerz still managed to hang in on for long enough. The third-year man out of Wisconsin-Whitewater is turning himself into one of the best interior linemen in football. Plain and simple.RB Javonte WilliamsThe Broncos running back has been waiting for a game like this. He logged a career-high 30 touches (27 carries) for 98 yards and his first touchdown since that brutal knee injury last year. Williams looks a little healthier each week and on Sunday did exactly what Denver needed. He ran tough between the tackles, took what he could get and secured the ball. Williams got the rock on two of every three snaps he played against Kansas City. That’s a workhorse.CB Ja’Quan McMillianDenver’s tough little nickel back turned in his sec...CU Buffs football players robbed during away game at UCLA

Published Mon, 23 Dec 2024 12:04:32 GMT
Fans of the late Matthew Perry are finding solace in some of his most memorable performances, with many pointing to his comedic work on “Friends” as bringing them joy in the days after his death.Perry, 54, had always remained proud of his role in the iconic sitcom. But when it comes to his entire body of work, the actor has — on multiple occasions — singled out one film as being his “best.”Just a few seasons after “Friends” debuted, Perry appeared opposite Salma Hayek in the 1997 film “Fools Rush In.” The film starred Perry as Alex Whitman, a real-estate developer who falls for Hayek’s free-spirited photographer after a fling in Las Vegas. It wasn’t a universal hit with critics, but it’s the film Perry suggested he was most proud of.“To this day, it’s probably my best movie,” Perry wrote in his 2022 memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.” Matthew Perry’s cause of death still under investigation by county medical examiner In fact, Perry has not only suggested that “Foo...Scream and Scream Again

Scream and Scream Again: In his 2001 book American Hardcore, author Steven Blush said of DC band Scream, “Scream was one of the most impressive outfits of the HC era. Unlike many of their contemporaries, Scream had a singer who could actually sing, and the band could actually play.”Based on their set at Zebulon on Friday night, that still holds true today. According to that same book, the band eventually dissolved because of bassist Skeeter Thompson’s drug habit. The drummer at the time, one Dave Grohl, would make his way to Seattle to join Nirvana, while the brothers Stahl (singer Pete and guitarist Franz) would form Wool. Franz would later join Grohl’s Foo Fighters for a couple of years. And now things have come full circle and Scream is back.At Zebulon, Thompson didn’t only look fit and healthy, but he was playing immaculately. It was such a treat to see him and Franz Stahl trading licks like it was ’81 again. Thompson is one of punk’s gr...Review: Grateful Dead legend Bobby Weir performs with Stanford Symphony Orchestra

Bobby Weir has been playing in bands for some 60 years.Yet, the Grateful Dead legend has probably never played in one in the Bay Area quite like the one on Sunday night at the Frost Amphitheater on the Stanford University Campus. The 76-year-old San Francisco native, who was raised in Atherton and has long called Marin County home, was joined onstage by an enormous number of people for this two-set show that drew a full house to one of the most beautiful concert settings in all of California.First off, he was accompanied by his regular Wolf Bros band — with the supersized lineup of Don Was on double bass, Jay Lane on drums, Jeff Chimenti on keyboard and Barry Sless on pedal steel guitar. There was also the Wolfpack, the string and brass quintet of violinist Mads Tolling, cellist Alex Kelly, trumpeter Brian Switzer, trombonist Adam Theis and multi-instrumentalist Sheldon Brown.Yet, surrounding Weir and his Wolf men on three sides was the mammoth Stanford Symphony Orchestra, the ...Police pursuit that started in San Francisco ends with arrest in East Bay

She had dreamed of opening a pie shop while she was raising her kids, but she never thought she’d do it, let alone launch a California pie empire.Today, the Pie Hole has expanded far beyond its humble beginnings in Los Angeles’ Arts District to retail locations across Southern California and franchises in Japan and Saudi Arabia. You can get her pies and signature “pie holes” via GoldBelly.com and now at Whole Foods markets across the nation. We caught up with this pie phenom recently to talk about her story, her new cookbook — “Pie is Messy” (Ten Speed Press, $28) and how to bake a perfect Thanksgiving pie.
