'Latinx': Why do many Hispanics hate the term? (NEXSTAR) — National Hispanic Heritage Month officially kicks off Sept. 15, marking the 35th year of the celebration of Hispanic cultures and their contributions to the U.S. As Hispanic people continue being one of the U.S.' most visible communities, many questions about terminology arise. The current most common ways Hispanic populations refer to themselves are “Hispanic,” “Latino/Latina” and “Chicano,” but the newer gender-neutral term “Latinx” attempts to be more inclusive to non-binary members of the population. Which states have the most confrontational drivers? “Non-binary” means those who don’t identify as male or female: These are people who have a gender that blends elements of either, or people have a gender that is neither male or female. Additionally, as the National Center for Transgender Equality says, some people don’t identify with any gender and some people’s gender identity changes over time. But although it may have good intentions, the term has yet to be int...

Stanford takeaways: How Daniels, Yurosek and Bailey helped Cardinal beat Hawaii in Taylor’s debut Stanford sophomore Ashton Daniels appeared in 10 games last season as a wildcat quarterback, recording 25 rushes and six pass attempts. So when he found out Wednesday that he would be Stanford’s starting quarterback in the opener against Hawaii, he was eager to showcase his all-around ability.“I think that the way I was used last year on the field, it was kind of a misconception that I could only run the ball,” Daniels said. “Just knowing that I have a lot to prove just lit a fire underneath me. Let me go out there and show everyone that I can throw the ball.”Daniels did that Friday night, completing 25 of 36 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns as Stanford beat Hawaii 37-24 in its season opener. Despite making his first start on the road, Daniels didn’t commit a turnover or take a sack, while also rushing a team-high 11 times for 42 yards.“His demeanor was great throughout the entire game,” Stanford coach Troy Taylor said. “It’s a pretty big deal on the road. He’s jus...

Cruise refutes SFFD claim that AVs blocked ambulance, led to victim's death SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- On the night of Aug. 14, a pedestrian was struck by a human-driven vehicle on Harrison and 7th streets. The victim suffered critical injuries but died after reaching the hospital. The San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) says two Cruise vehicles blocked lanes, which prevented the ambulance from getting to the hospital in a timely manner. SFFD blames Cruise for causing a delay in response time that led to a patient dying. However, Cruise refuted SFFD's claims in a statement (below) released by the autonomous vehicle company on Saturday. Cruise says the ambulance behind the AV had a clear path to pass the AV as other vehicles, including another ambulance, proceeded to do. SFFD: Pedestrian died after Cruise cars blocked ambulance On August 14 two Cruise AVs encountered an active emergency scene at an intersection in which a pedestrian had been hit by a human driven car. The first vehicle promptly clears the area once the light turns green and the other stops i...
