Read more Letters to the Editor.Pushing out Feinsteinfor Lee is a shamOstensibly, Rep. Ro Khanna wants Sen. Dianne Feinstein to resign claiming she is not fit to perform her duties (while extolling her service to California).Really? He has endorsed Rep. Barbara Lee who is running for Feinstein’s seat. Gov. Newsom has already stated he will appoint a Black female to the seat should Feinstein resign. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to connect these dots. Our governor will then have appointed both our U.S. senators whose reelection chances are virtually guaranteed in the future.Kudos to Feinstein for asking party leadership to appoint someone to fill her committee seat(s) and let the voters, rather than politicians, decide who represents us. Shame on Khanna and others complicit in this pretty obvious sham — or should it be scam?Killian ByrneSan JoseIn California, arewe failing our youth?Yesterday I pulled up at the gas stati...

I really can’t,” he said.Miley, who has had a decades-long relationship with the A’s dating...

Alabama education director ousted over ‘woke’ training book MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Friday announced she replaced her director of early childhood education over the use of a teacher training book, written by a nationally recognized education group, that the Republican governor denounced as teaching “woke concepts” because of language about inclusion and structural racism.Barbara Cooper was forced out as as head of the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education after Ivey expressed concern over the distribution of the book to state-run pre-kindergartens. Ivey spokesperson Gina Maiola identified the book as the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Developmentally Appropriate Practice Book, 4th edition. Maiola said she understands that the books have been collected from the state classrooms.“The education of Alabama’s children is my top priority as governor, and there is absolutely no room to distract or take away from this mission. Kotsay, A’s focusing on 2023, not possible Las Vegas move ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Mark Kotsay is focusing on the Oakland Athletics’ current season, not on the team’s longterm location.“I’m managing this team and I don’t have control of those decisions,” he said Friday, two days after the team said it purchased land in Las Vegas with the intention of building a ballpark there for the 2027 season. “My focus is on getting this team better, improving from the maturation of these young players and winning as many games as possible.”Kotsay played for Oakland from 2004-07, was a coach from 2016-21 under Bob Melvin and was promoted to manager ahead of the 2022 season. His team was 3-16 going into Friday night’s game at Texas. The A’s had a major league low payroll of $57.8 million on opening day, and their average attendance of 11,027 through 12 home games is the lowest in the majors and less than half of the league average of about 27,600. Team president Dave Kaval said “we’re turning our full attention to...

Bergeron doesn’t travel with Bruins for games in Florida SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Boston captain Patrice Bergeron did not accompany the Bruins on their trip to Florida for Games 3 and 4 of an Eastern Conference first-round series with the Panthers. He missed Game 1 due to illness and Game 2 to an unspecified upper-body injury. Game 3 is Friday evening.“We believe Game 5 is likely,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said.Bergeron was the Bruins’ third-leading scorer in the regular season with 27 goals and 31 assists for 58 points. The 37-year-old forward got hurt in the first period of the regular-season finale in Montreal, and also missed four of eight games late in the season, with the Bruins having nothing left to play for. Bergeron returned for Boston’s last two games. “We wanted, I wanted and Bergy wanted the last two games to ramp up, to get into a rhythm for the playoffs,” Montgomery said. “Life happens. Unfortunately, tweaked something in that last game. Even with the hindsight, we would still do it exactly the same way. That’s how it’s easy t...

Marlins-Guardians postponed, doubleheader set for Saturday CLEVELAND (AP) — The series opener between the Miami Marlins and Cleveland Guardians scheduled for Friday night was postponed by wet weather. The game was rescheduled for Saturday as part of a doubleheader beginning at 3:10 p.m. EDT. The postponement may have put a matchup of Cy Young Award winners in jeopardy that was set for Saturday night. Cleveland will start right-hander Shane Bieber (1-0, 3.38 ERA) in the first game. Right-hander Sandy Alcantara (1-2, 5.47 ERA) was scheduled to face Bieber, but the Marlins didn’t announce a starter for the opener. Alcantara was the unanimous NL winner last season while Bieber won the AL award in 2020. Miami left-hander Braxton Garrett (0-0, 3.38 ERA) and Cleveland right-hander Zach Plesac (1-0, 6.92 ERA) are scheduled to start the second game after their appearances Friday night were washed out.The tarp was placed on the field around 5 p.m., bringing an early end to Cleveland’s batting practice. LeBron not trading trash talk with Brooks before Game 3 EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — LeBron James has seemed wise beyond his years since the start of his basketball journey, and he wasn’t about to drop down to Dillon Brooks’ level of discourse heading into a pivotal game for the Los Angeles Lakers.James declined to respond to the Memphis Grizzlies’ top agitator Friday after Brooks said the top scorer in NBA history was “old” following Game 2 of the teams’ first-round playoff series, which resumes Saturday night in Los Angeles. The 38-year-old James patiently parried several questions about Brooks’ comments and about the importance of trash talk in general before abruptly cutting short his media session at the Lakers’ training complex. James never said Brooks’ name, but he clearly knew who’s behind the narrative trying to push its way into a competitive series after two eventful games in Memphis.“I’m ready to play,” James said. “That’s it.”The seventh-seeded Lakers’ visit from the Gr...
