Smart & Final warehouse workers are striking against their employer, marking the latest in a long run of labor actions in a variety of industries this past year.Workers and the Teamsters Local 630 union are protesting the Commerce-based company to push for a contract that includes job protections and better wages. Workers voted to join the Teamsters in May of this year, the union said. Of particular concern to the warehouse workers is the company's plan to close two warehouses in Commerce and Riverside.About 600 workers from those facilities will be fired, then forced to reapply for their jobs at a Rancho Cucamonga warehouse that is expected to open next year, according to the Whittier Daily News. The Teamsters say the company is trying to bust the nascent union, but the company says the new facility will help them grow distribution capacity by 50%, the News reported."We're fighting for these guys' jobs," said Frank Afoa with Local 630.Dozens of severely wounded, and dual nationals, allowed to flee Gaza as war rages on

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Hundreds of dual passport holders and dozens of seriously injured Palestinians were allowed to leave Gaza on Wednesday after more than three weeks under siege, while Israeli airstrikes destroyed apartments in a densely populated area for the second straight day.Even as bombings have driven tens of thousands from their homes and food, water and fuel run low, no one has been allowed to leave Gaza, except for four hostages released by Hamas. Another captive was rescued by Israeli forces earlier this week. But a limited agreement appeared to have been reached Wednesday. Al-Jazeera television, one of the few media outlets still reporting from northern Gaza, aired footage of devastation in the densely populated Jabaliya refugee camp near Gaza City, and of several wounded people, including children, being brought to a nearby hospital. The Hamas-run government said airstrikes killed and wounded many people, but the exact toll was not yet known. The Al-Jazeera footage...Kisstory at the Bowl

Kisstory at the Bowl: We’ve been told for the last year or so that this is Kiss’ last hurrah. We’ve heard that from many artists many times, though it seems particularly suspicious coming from the mouths of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley considering the fact that they themselves have admitted they’re not above sending out a whole new set of musicians in makeup as Kiss. Kinda like a glam metal Menudo! For now, we’ll take them at their word. Expect fireworks, lights, bloody tongues, and a whole lotta awesome rock anthems. The fact that they’re doing it without Ace Frehley and Peter Criss leaves a sour taste, but it does leave room for a mega reunion in a few years. We’re told, however, that the stage show on this tour is immense.Kisstory at the Bowl: The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 3 at the Hollywood Bowl.  ...Fall Back: Arts Calendar November 2-8

The top team in the Pac-12 standings is near the bottom against the point spread while a bottom feeder is one of the best when the betting line comes into play.Washington’s struggles with the spread should come as zero surprise to anyone who watched the Huskies struggle as huge favorites against Arizona State and Stanford.Meanwhile, ASU’s success against the betting line was reflected in narrower-than-expected losses to Colorado and Washington and the upset of WSU last weekend. With two months down and one remaining, it’s clear which Pac-12 teams are the best on the field and which are simply the best bets. Here are the records against the spread, taken from teamrankings.com:Arizona: 7-1Oregon: 6-1-1Oregon State: 5-3Arizona State: 4-3-1Colorado: 4-3-1Utah: 4-3-1Stanford: 4-4UCLA: 4-4Washington State: 4-4Washington: 3-4-1Cal: 3-5USC: 2-7Will those trends hold down the stretch? Doja Cat delivered a bit of a mixed trick-o-treat bag as she kicked off her first-ever arena headlining tour on Halloween night at Chase Center in San Francisco. The Cat woman, herself, was mostly on point, sounding especially strong as she showcased her rapping abilities. She’s a real talent, one that should be a force in the industry for years to come.Yet, she also showed her inexperience in the arena realm as she did very little try to connect with the crowd or make the evening feel “live” on Night 1 of the Scarlet Tour, which supports the 2023 album of the same name.Instead, it often just felt like we were just watching something like “Doja Cat: The Concert Movie,” which — who knows? — could be heading to a theater near you in the not-so-distant future.More significant, the touring production — while arena-style big and surprisingly Halloween appropriate — wasn’t as thrilling as it should have been. There was a numbing s...Here’s what this year’s Starbucks holiday cups look like

By Jordan Valinsky | CNNNew York — For fervent fans of Starbucks, the holidays officially kick off this week with the arrival of its seasonal cups.Beginning Thursday, customers at its US locations will have their hot drinks served in one of four festive cups that are “clad in holiday red and Starbucks greens and a mood-boosting magenta,” according to a release.Noticeably different in this year’s design is the magenta accent, which “lifts the traditional holiday colors and makes the red even look brighter,” said Kristy Cameron, Starbucks’ creative director.Related ArticlesRestaurants, Food and Drink | A Brussels sprouts recipe almost everyone will love, even Brussels sprouts haters Restaurants, Food and Drink | Bay Area pastry chef creates line of gourmet frozen cookie dough rounds Restaurants, Food and Drink | This new Bay Area pho shop reflects the explosive history of its hometown Restaurants, Food and Drink | San Francis...49ers GM Lynch has great expectations after Chase Young trade

SANTA CLARA — Chase Young played an astonishing 75 snaps in Washington’s only win over its past six games.Young had never played so many snaps in a game until that Oct. 15 victory at Atlanta, and he did so on a rebuilt right knee that was severely injured two years ago.All of which is to say: Young appears healthy enough to not only rush quarterbacks, but play as a full-time defensive end and make an impact for the 49ers, who agreed to a trade for him Tuesday.Young still must pass a physical for the deal to go through, with a 2024 compensatory third-round pick going to the Commanders in return.“I’m like you, I kept turning on the tape — 75, 64, those are a lot of snaps. The proof is what’s translating on the field,” general manager John Lynch said on a Wednesday morning conference call. “He’s been playing a lot, and looking really good.“There’s preliminary medical stuff where they send medical files, then the last step is flying out here tod...Stanford again hits the road, which has been friendlier than home in 2023

Five Pac-12 teams have winning road records this season: No. 5 Washington, No. 6 Oregon, No. 18 Utah, No. 24 USC – and Stanford, which sits at the bottom of the conference standings. While the Cardinal (2-6, 1-5) has lost all five of its home games, including a game against FCS team Sacramento State, it is 2-1 on the road, with wins over Hawaii and Colorado. It’s a continuation of a four-year trend – since 2019, Stanford is 3-15 at home and 9-10 on the road, including wins at Washington, Notre Dame, Southern Cal and UCLA.The Cardinal looks to continue its success away from home Saturday at Washington State (6 p.m., Pac-12 Network).Coach Troy Taylor couldn’t pinpoint why the team has played so much better on the road.“You’re always kind of turning that over and trying to figure out if there’s something you do differently,” Taylor said. “We just tried to keep things as regular as possible.”The last time Stanford was on the road, in front of a sellout crowd at Colorado, the C...Multiple boat fires break out at Oyster Point Marina in South SF, crews responding
