By that, I mean that thousands of people, uncountable numbers of wildlife, hundreds of businesses and the real estate value of thousands of mortgages would all suffer if Lake Merritt goes under, and succumbs to rotten algae, dead fish and odors associated with foul water. This could happen. A warming global climate and developing El Niño could bring late summer temperatures to levels conducive to harmful algal blooms, leading to zero oxygen again and more dead fish. Nutrient levels are already there, and tidal flows remain lower than historic. Add urban runoff, and the fact that most storm drains and inlets are unfiltered, and you can have quite a mess. The Lake’s water quality account is overdrawn. LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — Bolivia’s soccer federation suspended six match officials after they added 42 minutes in a professional national league match.Palmaflor beat Blooming 3-2 on Monday in a match that was later revised by the country’s refereeing commission. The 132-minute clash took place under heavy rains in the city of Chapare, in the South American country’s heartland.Referee Julio Gutierrez added the time due to a prolonged video review of Palmaflor’s second goal and a brawl that followed two red cards for the visitors. The commission made the decision to suspend the officials late on Tuesday.Blooming said on Twitter that the match officials put its players under heavy risk of injury due to “excessive added time.”Palmaflor’s top sports executive is Bolivia’s former President Evo Morales, who said on social media his team had won the match despite “suspicious officials.”Morales governed Bolivia between 2006-2019. GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — Dozens of bison from a mountain park outside Denver were transferred Wednesday to several tribes from across the Great Plains, in the latest example of Native Americans reclaiming stewardship over animals their ancestors lived alongside for millennia.Following ceremonial drumming and singing and an acknowledgement of the tribes that once occupied the surrounding landscape, the bison were loaded onto trucks for relocation to tribal lands.About a half-dozen of the animals from Colorado will form the nucleus of a new herd for the Yuchi people south of Tulsa, Oklahoma, said Richard Grounds with the Yuchi Language Project. The herd will be expanded over time, to reestablish a spiritual and physical bond broken two centuries ago when bison were nearly wiped out and the Yuchi were forced from their homeland, Grounds said.He compared the burly animals’ return to reviving the Yuchi’s language — and said both language and bison were inseparable from the land. ...St. Patrick’s Day street parties set to return to Kingston’s downtown

Police and bylaw officers are once again expecting a huge crowd in Kingston’s University District this weekend. City of Kingston Licensing and Enforcement Manager Kyle Compeau says based on what’s been seen on social media the bigger party is expected to be on Saturday but that bylaw and Kingston Police will still be “bolstering up enforcement complements” for Friday as well. In the meantime, bylaw officers have been working alongside officials from Queen’s University to engage students and encourage them to be respectful in their celebration, or risk some relatively significant fines. Students can receive Administrative Monetary Penalties $100 for yelling or shouting, $200 for amplification of sound, and $2000 for hosting what’s considered to be a nuisance party.Compeau says this year however, bylaw is trying to listen a bit more to students on things that officers can do to build a better relationship with the student body.“I think the big...1 shot in Brighton, juvenile suspects detained at Prairie View High School
