SafeSport responds to US Soccer player concerns about abuse cases The U.S. Center for SafeSport said it is willing to work with the U.S. Soccer Athletes Council to address concerns about the organization tasked with protecting athletes from abuse. The U.S. Soccer Athletes Council sent a letter to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives this week signed by more than 100 current and former national team players, including the entire U.S. team playing in the Women’s World Cup. “As athletes, we want to take a lead in collaborating with Congress and National Governing Bodies of Sport in order to create a safe and supportive environment that allows soccer players — and all other athletes in the Olympic movement — to thrive both on and off the field. We are committed to working with you and other stakeholders to make the necessary changes to ensure that players are safe and protected from abuse. The only change is they will move to KWGN on those dates. Man seriously injured in Medford stabbing One person was taken to a hospital and another person was arrested after a stabbing in Medford Thursday afternoon, police said. Emergency crews first responded around 4:30 p.m., according to police, after a 911 caller reported two people fighting in the area of Riverside Avenue and Commercial Street. On scene, police said officers found one man with multiple stab wounds and another man nearby. Police said the two people were known to each other.“A preliminary investigation was conducted and it was established that a fight broke out between the two parties in which one produced a knife and stabbed the other,” police said. Police said the man who was stabbed was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The other man was arrested and charged with armed assault to murder. California Science Center starts complex process to display Space Shuttle Endeavour vertically LOS ANGELES (AP) — A highly technical process began Thursday in Los Angeles to put NASA’s retired Space Shuttle Endeavour on permanent display in the vertical launch position complete with external tank and two solid rocket boosters.Workers used a crane to hoist the bottom segments of the boosters into the California Science Center’s future Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, which is currently under construction in Exposition Park. The segments, called aft skirts, had to be precisely positioned so that the entire assembly can be stacked properly. Officials say it will be the first time the procedure has been done outside of a NASA facility.The 20-story-tall display will stand atop an 1,800-ton (1,633-metric ton) concrete slab supported by six so-called base isolators to protect Endeavour from earthquakes.
