ST. LOUIS - As festivities commence in and around Busch Stadium for Cardinals Opening Day, animal activist organization PETA will fly a banner overhead protesting the treatment of the famous Budweiser Clydesdales.According to a PETA spokesperson, the banner is intended to shame Budweiser for "mutilating the horses' tailbones." Trending: What to know for the 2023 St. Louis Cardinals home opener The organization claims staffers at Warm Springs Ranch, the breeding facility for the Budweiser Clydesdales, remove the tails off the animals shortly after they're born, either by cutting them off or by tying a tight band around the tail to cut off the blood supply. PETA says this is so the horses all look a certain way when hitched to the beer wagon.“Horses need their tailbones, and cutting them off causes immense pain, affects their balance, and removes their first line of defense against biting and disease-spreading insects,” PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo said. Published Wed, 05 Mar 2025 02:11:29 GMT

In fairness to Nuggets coach Michael Malone, subterfuge is a tricky word.Malone invoked that description on Wednesday afternoon when trying to ascribe motivation to certain articles tearing down MVP candidate Nikola Jokic.“I think sometimes there are people out there that are just going really out of their way to prove a point,” Malone said. “I wonder what is the motivation? What are they trying to accomplish? They’re killing this guy, but they’re really trying to promote somebody else. Well, just do that. Promote your guy. What’s the word, subterfuge? Is that a word? Does it apply here? I think it applies here. I’m tired of the subterfuge.”Not long ago Malone made the comparison to college basketball, where negative recruiting is a part of the game. As the MVP race rises to a boil, he implied there was some level of politicking going on.“Hatchet jobs are made about Nikola’s defense,” Malone said. “I don’t know who’s paying some of these people to write these articles.
