George Paton minced no words at the NFL Scouting Combine.“Obviously, we need to upgrade the offensive line,” the Broncos general manager told reporters in Indianapolis two weeks ago.So when the NFL’s two-day negotiating period opened Monday morning ahead of the official start to the new league year and free agency period Wednesday, Paton and Denver got right to work. The Broncos threw major resources into their offensive front line, agreeing to long-term contracts with former San Francisco right tackle Mike McGlinchey and former Baltimore guard Ben Powers, league sources confirmed to The Post.McGlinchey is receiving a five-year contract worth up to $87.5 million that comes with $50 million guaranteed, while Powers can earn up to $52 million over his four-year contract and gets $28.5 million guaranteed, sources told The Post. The salary cap ramifications were not immediately clear — Denver entered with more than $32 million in cap space for 2023, seventh-most in the NFL — but the...

Some celebrities notably absent from the Oscars' In Memoriam tribute

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 19:20:00 GMT

It is typically the most somber part of the Academy Awards ceremony: the In Memoriam tribute to notable entertainers who have died over the past year.On Sunday night, John Travolta was visibly choked up as he walked on stage to the song "Hopelessly Devoted to You" by Olivia Newton-John, Travolta's "Grease" co-star who died of cancer in August 2022. "Since tonight is a celebration of the work and the accomplishments of our community in this past year, it is only fitting then that we celebrate those we’ve lost, who’ve dedicated their lives to their craft, both in front of and behind the camera, through their immeasurable contributions," a visibly emotional Travolta said. "Each of them left an individual and indelible mark, that shared and informed us, they’ve touched our hearts, they’ve made us smile, and became dear friends, who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to.” Photos from the 2023 Oscars: red carpet, ceremony, and more The spotlight then shined on Lenny Kravitz who pl...

Bank collapses: What is moral hazard, and does anyone care anymore?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 19:20:00 GMT

"Moral hazard" is a well-established economic concept that basically says if there are no consequences for bad corporate behavior, there's no incentive for companies to change their ways. That was the stink that followed the bailout of banks after the 2008 financial crisis. Once businesses become "too big to fail," they can pretty much do as they please, engaging in the same risky behavior. While the collapse of Silicon Valley and Signature banks is nowhere close to the severity of the earlier mess, it once again places us in the unfortunate position of the government stepping in to keep the peace and make depositors whole. Silicon Valley Bank seized by FDIC in largest bank failure since 2008 It could be argued that this outcome was all but assured in 2018 after then-President Donald Trump signed into law a bipartisan bill deregulating financial firms. Trump called this "a great day for America."It wasn't.What the 2018 regulatory rollback did was relieve financial firms of much of t...

From Creation to the Great Tribulation – Feeding God’s People with Clyde Young

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 19:20:00 GMT

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth. Now the Earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.-Genesis 1:1-2The inception of the universe began with God. He forged the cosmos, every celestial object we see in the never-ending distance down to the nearest insect on this Earth. So, God created mankind in his own image; in the image of God, he created them; male and female, he created them.-Genesis 1:27The very last of his creation, man, was created by God in His own image to “rule over fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Man was entrusted with authority because God loves them so.Ironic how humanity ended up imposing rule over one another. From the moment they were created, the man began their journey toward what the Bible calls “The Great Tribulation,” an event that will see the sinners and the scornful face...

The spot these trucks park at is actually ideal if you look at it. Every time I go by the trucks are busy, providing a great service to the community as well as providing for themselves as small business operators. So one neighbor, in a nearby court complains about street safety and the council votes to ban their parking? They’ve been there for years and years without issue. Come on people, let’s use some common sense here.
