AUSTIN (KXAN) — Byron Murphy isn't ready to claim he has the best hands on the team after his touchdown grab against Wyoming, but he's been waiting to stand tall in the end zone for a while now.Murphy hauled in a 1-yard scoring pass from Quinn Ewers for Texas' first touchdown in the Longhorns' 31-10 win over Wyoming on Saturday, and the 6-foot-1, 310-pound defensive lineman lined up at fullback to make the play. He's the second defensive lineman to score an offensive touchdown in Longhorns history. Derek Lokey was the first to do it during the 2007 Holiday Bowl. Texas swaps with Florida State in AP Top 25, Longhorns have highest ranking since 2009 The play has been part of the offensive since last season, Murphy said, so he's had to bide his time to get a shot at getting six."I've just been waiting for my time," he said. "We've been practicing it, so when the opportunity presented itself, I was ready."11:45 2Q: Certified large human being Byron Murphy moonlights as a fullback and ...Sammy Walker flexes NHL muscles in Wild’s prospects showcase

Sammy Walker got his first taste of the NHL last season and looked like it in the Wild’s prospects game Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks.Walker, who will join the rest of the team for training camp when it starts on Thursday, scored a hat trick and added an assist in a 7-4 victory in the second annual Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase at TRIA Rink.It probably should have been more. With just less than 2 minutes to play, Walker had an open shot at an empty net but sent a leading pass to teammate Rasmus Kumpulainen — and the puck floated untouched into the back boards.“Honestly, I don’t know what I was thinking,” Walker said. “I thought he was going and was trying to be a nice guy, just laying it out, and it kind of went too far. I kinda messed that up.”Coach Brett McLean, who ran the prospects camp and will take the reins for the first time as the Wild’s AHL coach in Iowa this fall, said he’d rather Walker had tried to score there but that was hardly the takeaway from the weekend.Th...UPDATE: Man shot Sunday afternoon in Central West End

ST. LOUIS - It was another Sunday morning of sometimes heated but always civil political debate on Hancock and Kelley on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023.John Hancock, Republican consultant, and Michael Kelley, Democrat consultant, discussed the following topics:A homeless camp on the lawn of St. Louis City Hall appears to be growing, and city officials have no plan to remove it with used toiletries in plain sight. One woman is 7 months pregnant. Her husband fears she may give birth in a tent on the lawn. The couple is protesting a lack of “coed” shelter space for married couples. Cash bail is officially against the law in Illinois starting Monday. Suspected felons will be freed “en masse” unless a state’s attorney can show a judge clear and convincing evidence that a suspect poses a threat to a person or community and/or the suspect is likely to flee. A look at the heroes and zeros from the Broncos’ 35-33 loss to the Washington Commanders.Marvin Mims Jr.: Do the Broncos finally have a vertical threat? If the first two quarters of Sunday’s game are a harbinger of things to come, the answer is a resounding yes. The Oklahoma product’s first (and only) two receptions Sunday went for 60 and 53 yards (the former for a touchdown), and his lone punt return went for 45. After Sean Payton’s offense was completely devoid of big plays in Week 1, suddenly there’s a ray of hope. Provided Payton actually uses him, of course.Eric Bieniemy: So, maybe the former CU Buffs star/coach knows what he’s doing after all? Dismissed as an Andy Reid understudy in Kansas City, Bieniemy is out to prove himself as the Commanders’ offensive coordinator and play-caller this season. On Sunday, he didn’t just match wits with Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, he toyed with him, especially in the second half ...Despite 0-2 start, Broncos Hall of Famers Champ Bailey, DeMarcus Ware see light at the end of tunnel under Sean Payton

Former Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey was full of swag as he walked up to a scrum of reporters with his gold Hall of Fame jacket and sunglasses. Moments later, former outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware entered the scene and couldn’t help but talk about Denver, which he called “God’s Country.”Bailey and Ware represent the glory days of the Broncos organization. Ware helped Denver to win Super Bowl 50 –the franchise’s third title. Bailey, who played 10 of his 15 NFL seasons in Denver, was a part of five playoff appearances and a Super Bowl in 2013.As both players were at Empower Field at Mile High for Sunday’s matchup against the Washington Commanders, they looked back at their time in Denver and what it will take for the franchise to return to its winning ways. Ware and Bailey agreed that change starts and ends with first-year head coach Sean Payton.“He’s a proven winner and that’s something we needed around here,” Bailey said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how successful we ca...Broncos four downs: Man, it’s good to be a CU Buff right now. Unless you’re Vance Joseph.

Initial thoughts from Broncos’ 35-33 loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 2 at Empower Field:1.Vance, this ain’t it. One former Buff called a whale of a game Sunday at Empower Field. Unfortunately, that CU dude in question wasn’t the one in the employ of the Broncos. So what exactly are we doing here, Vance Joseph? While Eric Bieniemy was screening the Broncos to death the way the CSU Rams chucked crossing route after crossing route at the Buffs late Saturday night, Joseph’s defense looked a step late and several salary-cap dollars short. Gifted a 21-3 lead some 21 minutes into Week 2, the Broncos proceeded to get outscored 32-12. The Commanders averaged 4.6 points over their final seven non-kneeldown drives, in a league where the average points surrendered was 1.72 per series. Over the first two games of an 0-2 start, the Broncos have surrendered 2.89 points per drive, which sounds to us like a good way to go 6-11 or 7-10. And a good reason to start the searc...$250K reward to be offered in ambush shooting death of L.A. County Sheriff’s deputy

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, along with county leaders and Palmdale’s mayor, on Sunday announced a reward of up to $250,000 for the identification, arrest and prosecution of the suspect or suspects involved in the fatal shooting ambush of Deputy Ryan “Clink” Clinkunbroomer in the Antelope Valley Saturday night. “The sheriff’s department personnel have worked around the clock in an attempt to find these suspects - it could be one, it could be two - in Ryan’s murder,” Luna said at the press conference. Clinkunbroomer, 30, an eight-year veteran of the sheriff’s department, was found unconscious in his police cruiser and suffering from gunshot wounds by a citizen around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Sierra Highway and Avenue Q in Palmdale.
