AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — Generational talents Marta, Christine Sinclair and Megan Rapinoe have all played in their final Women’s World Cup and are leaving the game in a much different place than when they started. Joining them in the group of players ending their international careers is Estefania Banini of Argentina, who said it’s time to make way for younger players. Caroline Seger of Sweden is still playing in the tournament, but she has already said that it will be her last. “It’s emotional. Those are some of the greatest football players of all time, players that I’ve looked up to,” said United States captain Lindsey Horan as her eyes filled with tears. “Pinoe, Sinc, both of them I got to play with. Marta, one of the GOATs. It’s hard as a football player to see these guys exiting like this, but look at how much they did for women’s football. Them on the field, their character, everything. They’re the reason we’re all here toda...Washington State AD blasts Pac-12’s ‘poor leadership’ as Stanford and Cal try to find landing spot

Washington State athletic director Pat Chun blasted the “poor leadership” that has led the Pac-12 to the brink of extinction on Wednesday and said the Cougars have earned the right to be part of a Power Five conference as the chances of that happening appeared unlikely.Meanwhile, Pac-12 members California and Stanford have been looking for an escape hatch to a Power Five league, reaching out to officials with the Big Ten and its schools even as the Atlantic Coast Conference ponders building out a West Wing, too.Two people with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that Cal and Stanford have been in contact with Big Ten officials and members of the conference in recent days, but the Big Ten has not so far been moved toward adding two more West Coast schools to go along with Southern California, UCLA, Oregon and Washington, which are set to join in 2024.The two people spoke to The AP on condition of anonymity because neither the schools nor the conference were making th...Phillies rookie Wilson homers in 1st MLB plate appearance after nearly 2,900 at-bats in minors

DENVER (KDVR) -- Lime scooters are going to be easier to find in Boulder starting this month. The number of Lime scooters in the city is about to triple after a pilot program was proven successful, according to the University of Colorado Boulder. What are the rules for electric scooters in Denver? Where there are currently 275 scooters east of 28th Street, a CU Boulder revealed plans this week to bump that number up to 600, and eventually to 900.The shared micro-mobility pilot program started with 200 e-scooters in East Boulder to provide non-vehicular travel options in one of the top employment centers of the city near the CU campus. The expansion will allow scooters to operate across approximately three times the area of the pilot program and includes plans to make the program safe for everyone.Scooters will only be operable in designated areas throughout the city as well as the CU Boulder campus. Kyle Barraclough has been pitching in the big leagues since 2015, and while he’s spent the past few years bouncing back and forth between the majors and minors he seemingly pitched well enough in his brief time with the Angels last season to warrant at least a depth role in some organization. And yet this past offseason, his phone never rang.Shut out of any big league opportunity, Barraclough signed with the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League, an independent club based out of North Carolina. He eventually caught the eye of the Red Sox, who signed him in June and converted him to a starting pitcher, and he did so well in his new role that it became a matter of it, not when, he’d return to the big leagues.Wednesday that call, perhaps the most satisfying of his career, finally came.Barraclough was promoted to the Red Sox after a dominant stretch with Triple-A Worcester. He was added to the big league roster alongside left-hander Brandon Walter, giving Boston a pair of...Biden claims his economic policies are reviving manufacturing, making his case at a wind farm plant

By CHRIS MEGERIAN and JOSH BOAK (Associated Press)BELEN, N.M. (AP) — President Joe Biden declared Wednesday that his economic policies are reviving U.S. manufacturing as he toured the West to drum up support for his efforts on jobs and inflation in the face of voters’ doubts.“I’m not here to declare victory on the economy. We have a lot more work to do,” Biden said at Arcosa Wind Towers, a facility that once made Solo cups and other plastics but is now shifting to manufacturing wind towers. “But we have a plan. And it’s turning things around.”Arcosa, the president said, was a “great example” of how the administration’s legislative achievements have bolstered jobs and investments in the U.S. The company had to lay off workers in Illinois and Iowa before Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act became law last year, but customers placed $1.1 billion in wind tower orders with the company afterward, according to the White Ho...Latest news
