Inside the joy and bewilderment of Denver Nuggets ring night: “It’s kind of like ‘National Treasure'”

Inside the joy and bewilderment of Denver Nuggets ring night: “It’s kind of like ‘National Treasure'” The Nuggets locker room looked like a high school science class 30 minutes after their season opener. The lab assignment was a dissection, but nobody could could seem to figure out how to extract the innards. Everyone was looking to their left or right, asking a classmate for help.Except even the teacher didn’t know what he was doing. While players studied their experiments, Michael Malone approached DeAndre Jordan’s corner of the room. The 52-year-old coach needed Jordan to spend a couple of minutes showing him all the bells and whistles of the Nuggets’ new object of intrigue: a tricked-out 2023 NBA championship ring. The headlining feature is a ring within the ring — a smaller, “less flashy” (to quote Jordan) yet still diamond-encrusted accessory that slides in and out of the comically large hunk of jewelry. Turns out in the modern NBA, it’s two rings to rule them all. But Malone couldn’t figure out the dissection, so Jordan gave him the tut...

Hurricane Otis batters Acapulco, rips across southern Pacific coast before becoming tropical storm ACAPULCO, Mexico (AP) — Hurricane Otis ripped across Mexico’s southern Pacific coast as a powerful Category 5 storm early Wednesday, tearing through buildings in the resort city of Acapulco, sending sheets of earth down steep mountainsides and leaving large swaths of the southwestern state of Guerrero without power or cellphone service. While little is known about possible deaths or the full extent of the damage — the main highway into Acapulco was impassable — experts are calling Otis the strongest storm in history to make landfall along the Eastern Pacific Coast.By midmorning, Otis had weakened to a tropical storm, yet many on the coast were left reeling.Flor Campos had been trudging through mud for more than an hour along a highway outside Acapulco before she peeled off her shoes, worried she'd lose them in the muck. The domestic worker from a small town in Guerrero was among dozens of families, women and children who clambered over tree trunks and other debris left by landslides i...

Interpol Still Arresting Live

Interpol Still Arresting Live Interpol’s dark, melodic sound has remained solid through line-up and label changes that led to tangent explorations over the years. Lyrically they remain one of the most expressive and poetic bands still making music. On last year’s The Other Side of Make-Believe, their seventh album, singer Paul Banks emotes and sounds as enigmatic as ever, making it a record both old and new fans can appreciate. The gloomier aspects of the music made the New York band sort of neo-goth faves when they started out, but they’ve always been more varied than they got credit for and the mature place they’re at now proves it. Live at the Greek, their lush atmospherics and urgent hooks are sure to be as arresting as ever on the new stuff, and hopefully the classics still in regular listening rotation for many of us from Antics and Turn On the Bright Lights.Interpol at the Greek: The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday-Monday, October 29-30. lagreektheatre.com/events/detail/interpol-1    &...
