PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Perrine Delacour held onto the Portland Classic lead Friday with another bogey-free round at Columbia Edgewater, shooting a 5-under 67 in perfect conditions a day after opening with a 63 in the rain.“You had to adjust for the pins, especially on the wedges,” Delacour said. “But it was definitely nicer. I mean, even though the bag is still wet from yesterday, but it was definitely nicer to be in shorts and polos instead of rain gear.”Winless on the LPGA Tour, the 29-year-old Frenchwoman took a one-stroke lead over Linn Grant into the weekend on the tree-lined layout just south of the Columbia River.“I just kept patient,” Delacour said. “I mean, of course, coming from a leader on the first day, shooting 9 under, you know you’re not going to shoot twice 9 under.”Delacour has five top-10s in 11 seasons on the LPGA Tour, with her career best a third-place finish in the 2020 Women’s Australian Open. “I’m the kind of person to overthink,” Delacour said. “So, the goal ...

NEW YORK (AP) — Things were not going well for Coco Gauff at the U.S. Open on Friday night. Her shots were off. She was struggling to hold serve. She dropped a set. All the while, Gauff was talking to her coaches, Brad Gilbert and Pere Riba. Talking to herself. Slapping her thigh or putting her palm to her face. And when the No. 6-seeded Gauff needed to lift her game, when she needed to get headed in the right direction before it was too late, she did just that. Did she ever. Asking for more noise from the partisan fans at Arthur Ashe stadium — and, naturally, getting it — Gauff grabbed the last 10 games for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over No. 32 Elise Mertens to reach the fourth round at Flushing Meadows.“The energy today definitely helped me. I felt you guys,” said Gauff, a 19-year-old from Florida. “I played every point my hardest.”The 2022 French Open runner-up heard plenty of loud support from the crowd as she turned things around and won for the 14th time in her past 15 matches, al...

So, they walked. The family’s eldest daughter, though, has leg problems that left her in pain by the time she got to school. The child’s school principal at Swampscott Middle School noticed the situation and sent out a message to staff to see if anyone had a used bike they could donate. Swampscott officer Brian Wilson saw the email and said he didn’t hesitate to help out this family. With funds from an account for his comfort dog, Wilson bought the family three new bikes and a scooter.“I just didn’t hesitate,” Wilson said. “Especially when new to the country, knowing the struggles they were probably going through, it just felt right.” “Sometimes you just know something’s right and that’s what this felt like and I just wanted to do ...
